In just two weeks, more than 250 submissions were received for a program-wide Registration of Interest (ROI) for the design and construction of 17 new and upgraded 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games venues in Queensland.
Successful contractors will be working with the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) to deliver the projects.
The Queensland Government has also received 20 Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for a Delivery Partner to undertake the integrated Master Plan for the Victorian Park precinct development, which includes the transformation of the Brisbane Showgrounds and surrounds into a world-class hub for recreation, events, entertainment, and lifestyle well beyond the 2032 Games.
Meanwhile, 48 submissions have been received for the EOI for a Delivery Partner to support GIICA in providing a broad range of program management services that are critical for the successful delivery of the 2032 Games venues infrastructure program. A successful applicant will be engaged by the end of this year.
The procurement of a Delivery Partner is a critical step in delivering the Games venues on time and on budget.
These milestones mark a major milestone after a month following the appointment of Simon Crooks as the new CEO of the GIICA – who will be instrumental in leading delivery of the Games infrastructure outlined in the Queensland Government’s 2032 Delivery Plan as well as meeting a key requirement of the recently amended Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games Arrangement Act 2021.
Early works will soon begin on the transformation of the Brisbane Showgrounds, which will include restoration works on two heritage-listed grandstands and progressing plans for a 20,000-seat Main Arena upgrade.
“The overwhelming interest we have received to partner with the Crisafulli Government to deliver these legacy venues for 2032 and beyond shows Queenslanders were now confident our government will deliver the 2032 Games venues on time and on budget.
“After 1,200 days of Labor Chaos, the Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of delivering a legacy games all Queenslanders can be proud of for generations to come.
“This generational infrastructure will also unlock critical housing supply and better transport that will strengthen our Queensland communities long after the closing ceremony,” Deputy premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said.
The State Government has also recently officially signed the new Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the Australian Government, formalising a funding deal and locking in the delivery of critical and generational Games infrastructure for 2032 and beyond.
The Australian Government is contributing a capped $3.435 billion to the $7.1 billion Games Venues Infrastructure Program that will deliver 17 new or upgraded venues across Queensland.
This new agreement outlines the conditions under which the Commonwealth’s significant contribution can be spent by the Queensland Government as they work to deliver for the Games.
