Downer EDI will continue providing mining services at the Commodore open cut coal mine in South East Queensland adjacent the Millmerran Power Station 200 kilometres west of Brisbane, with a $286 million extension contract awarded by Millmerran Power Partners.

Under this new contract, Downer will continue its operations at the Commodore mine for another five years until 2024. The company will be providing mine operation and management as well as other associated works including mine planning and design, drill and blast services, overburden removal, coal mining and rehabilitation. In addition, Downer will also have statutory responsibility for the Commodore mine.

Downer has been in operations at the Commodore mine since 2001, delivering coal to the Millmerran Power Station.

“We are delighted to be continuing this 17-year partnership. Downer has a strong record of providing mining services to Millmerran Power Partners and helping it to drive efficiencies across its operations. We look forward to extending our working relationship and continuing to deliver efficient solutions for the Commodore mine,” Downer Chief Executive Grant Fenn.

The Commodore open cut coal mine has been the only source that provides coal to the Millmerran Power Station that supplies power to approximately a million homes in the State through the National Electricity Market.
