ElectraNet Pty Ltd has awarded a $245 million contract to Downer to undertake the upgrade of the existing transmission network in the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia as well as the upgrade of substations.
This contract award follows Downer's Early Contractor Involvement that included preliminary design works and critical procurements activities.

“We are excited to continue to apply Downer's expansive experience and knowledge in the construction of high voltage transmission line and substation works. Our capability is not only to provide system security to residents and businesses but ultimately, enable further growth and connection of renewable developments to the national power grid by the construction of additional capacity to the Eyre Peninsula,” Downer Executive General Manager Infrastructure Projects Mark Mackay said.
Project construction is expected to take up to 20 months to complete, with works to commence at the end of this month.
Under their contract award, Downer's scope of works for the Eyre Peninsula Link will include:
Once completed, the new transmission line and upgraded substations will be able to provide a more secure and reliable power supply to homes as well as businesses in the Eyre Peninsula.
In addition, the project will help increase the electricity network's capacity to accommodate more users; enable new renewable energy project to connect to the grid in the future; provide an opportunity to extend the network; and provide job opportunities and economic activity to the local community.
The Eyre Peninsula Link project is expected to be completed and operational by late 2022.
