Early works are commencing this month on the more than $1.1 billion expansion of the Redcliffe Hospital in Queensland.

The major expansion and refurbishment of the hospital will deliver a bigger and better healthcare facility for the growing Redcliffe community.

“It’s exciting to see works beginning on our more than $1.1 billion Redcliffe Hospital expansion program which will deliver the infrastructure and beds needed to meet future demand across the Moreton Bay region.

“Our dedicated health workers do an incredible job caring for their community here in Redcliffe, ensuring they receive the best healthcare close to home,” Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services Shannon Fentiman said.

The redevelopment will involve the construction of a new nine-storey Clinical Services Building and the refurbishment of existing spaces.

This project will deliver 204 extra hospital beds, additional operating theatres, Emergency Department treatment spaces and birthing suites along with endoscopy, outpatient consult and diagnostic rooms. The project will also include the expansion of medical imaging, pharmacy and pathology areas.

In addition, the ambulatory care and clinical services building will be combined into one integrated facility.

“I am so pleased to join the Premier and Health Minister in Redcliffe to mark the start of early works for this significant investment, which will be a game changer for health care in our community.

“I also want to acknowledge the amazing workers at Metro North, and in particular Redcliffe Hospital, who provide such a critical service each and every day.

“We know Queensland’s health system is one of the best in the nation, but this expansion, which will add 204 additional beds as well as upgraded services, will ensure our region has world-class facilities at their doorstep.

“I’m proud to be a member of a Labor Government which is investing record amounts of money in health care – whether it be infrastructure like this expansion or the three brand new hospitals we are building – or in skills and jobs that we need,” Member for Redcliffe and Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath said.

The Redcliffe Hospital Expansion is estimated to support more than 2,500 jobs during its construction, which is overseen by managing contractor Multiplex Constructions.

The expansion of Redcliffe Hospital is just one of the 11 major hospital expansions delivered by the Queensland Government, who will also build three new hospitals in Coomera, Bundaberg and Toowoomba.

The Big Hospital Build will provide a boost of approximately 2,200 beds to Queensland’s hospital system, establishing it as the biggest capital investment in health in the State’s history.

Weather and construction conditions permitting, the Redcliffe Hospital Expansion project is due to be completed by late 2028.

“Queenslanders can trust that my government will deliver more beds, more doctors and more nurses in our hospitals.

“We have more than $14 billion committed to deliver new and expanded hospitals right around the state, and are on track to build our critical health workforce by almost 10,000 this term of government.

“This major expansion will add an extra 204 beds and five new operating theatres to meet the demand of our growing Moreton Bay region.

“We are injecting $2.6 billion into infrastructure upgrades across the region because we know it’s what locals want and need.

“Meanwhile, this investment is supporting a massive 2,573 good jobs for locals over the next four years,” Premier Steven Miles said.
