EOI's open for $110m Chandler Highway upgrade in VIC

Written by PlantMiner | May 25, 2016 2:00:00 PM

The VIC Government have called for expressions of interest to build the $110m Chandler Highway upgrade in Melbourne. EOIs close Wednesday 15 June, and interested companies will be shortlisted prior to a tender process, which is expected to start in mid-2016.

The bridge will provide infrastructure necessary to cater to the 44,000 vehicles that travel along the Chandler highway per day.

The upgrade includes:

  • widening the highway from 4 to 6 lanes
  • upgrading the intersection at Heidelberg Road
  • installing new traffic lights at the Yarra Boulevard intersection
  • improving cycling and pedestrian paths

If you’re pulling estimates together for your EOI and need to procure rates for common road construction equipment (such as excavators, dozers, rollers, tippers, compactors) or subcontractors in the project area, get in touch with the team at PlantMiner!

Part of the upgrade involves building a new bridge on the western side of the existing Chandler Highway bridge.

The old bridge, which reduces the highway to 2 lanes as it crosses the Yarra River, will be converted to a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians.

The development provides 2 public spaces - one on and one underneath the bridge. To help guide the design, the State Govt are calling on the community to share ideas on how the spaces can be used and what they should look like.

Whether you want a park, a playground or a viewing platform just head to Vic Roads to have your say - maybe you have an even better idea! The online forums will be open until Sunday 12 June and further consultaiton will take place down the track.

Construction on the Chandler Highway upgrade is expected to begin in mid-2017 and be completed by late 2018. Have a look here for some key dates and more info on the project.
