Game on for the title of the $250 million North Queensland Stadium Managing Contractor, with Expressions of Interest opening today to deliver the stadium in time for the 2020 NRL season.
“These EOIs will be assessed on local industry participation strategies as well as experience, capacity and capability,” said Minister for State Development Dr Anthony Lynham.
According to Dr Lynham, the chosen Managing Contractor is required to create local employment opportunities for this project as well as ensure that suitable local businesses are given the opportunity to submit tender applications for trade packages.
The successful Managing Contractor will also have to identify opportunities for innovation in the local industry and, at the same time, achieve project training targets.
Dr Lynham also stated that EOI submissions will be evaluated on:
Submission of applications will be closed on 18th January 2017 and the shortlisted contractors will be asked to submit formal tenders by February. The successful Managing Contractor is expected to be announced by mid-2017.

Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper said now is the time for North Queensland businesses to step up, take the ball & run with it.

Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said it was vital that local tradies, contractors and businesses have every chance to maximise jobs opportunities.
“Our local businesses working on the stadium project will help kickstart our Townsville economy,” Mr Stewart said.
About the North Queensland Stadium development
The North Queensland Stadium – located within the Townsville City Waterfront Priority Development Area – is a joint project by the Queensland and Australian Governments as well as the Townsville City Council which is supported by the National Rugby League (NRL).
This project will deliver a 25,000 seat best-practice regional stadium which features a state-of-the-art corporate facilities, permanent stands and concessions, and modern amenities.
The stadium is an outcome – one of the firsts – from the Townsville City Deal which was signed off last week by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill.
For this project under the Townsville City Deal, the State Government has contributed $140 million while the Australian Government contributed $100 million and the NRL has funded $10 million. The stadium site was contributed by the Townsville City Council.
