The Australian Government is investing in South Australia’s transport infrastructure as part of its initiative to building the nation’s future.
Funding has been allocated through the 2025-26 Federal Budget to deliver three new projects, including:
“In this Budget, the Albanese Government is investing in infrastructure in South Australia – in the projects that are needed to make our roads safer, our freight networks more resilient and our transport links better serve communities.
“Our Government is committed to working with the Malinauskas Labor Government to get these projects done,” Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said.
“Through the investment in this Budget, and these critical new projects, Labor is building South Australia’s future,” Member for Boothby Louise Miller-Frost said.
The High Productivity Vehicle Network project will deliver upgrades between the South Eastern Freeway and Sturt Highway, with works to include the duplication of the Swanport Bridge and Murray Bridge Township Bypass in Monarto.
This project will provide the much-needed infrastructure to enable higher productivity vehicles to bypass Adelaide, ultimately resulting in fewer trips with reduced carbon emissions as well as increased freight efficiency and improved safety for all road users.
Meanwhile in northern Adelaide, the removal of the Curtis Road level crossing in Munno Para will eliminate the need for road traffic to interact with the Gawler passenger rail line.
The removal of the level crossing will help improve safety while also supporting the significant housing development in the region. Once completed, the project will improve residents’ access to employment, education and recreational services by reducing the conflict between road and rail networks. In addition, this project will improve travel times within Adelaide’s northern growth area.
Lastly, the Main South Road upgrade between Myponga and Yankalilla will deliver critical safety improvements along this stretch of road. Works will include:
The completion of this project will create a safer environment for all road users in the area.
