The Tasmanian Government is now seeking feedback from the community on the preliminary designs for the Bass Highway upgrade between Launceston and Devonport, north of Sassafras.
This project is one of the six priority upgrades identified in the 2023 Bass Highway Devonport to Launceston Corridor Strategy and is being delivered as part of the State Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
“We look forward to hearing the public’s feedback on the designs which feature several safety and efficiency improvements to a section of the highway between Latrobe and Sassafras.
“The upgrades will improve safety for road users by reducing the risk of head on collisions and providing safer turning opportunities,” Minister for Infrastructure Kerry Vincent said.
The upgrade will include widening road shoulders, building safety barriers to separate traffic travelling on either side of the highway as well as new, safer turning facilities.
The community is encouraged to have their say on the preliminary designs until 2 June 2025.
“Feedback gained during the consultation period will help inform future detailed designs for the upgrades,” Minister Vincent said.
This $50 million Bass Highway upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, each contributing $40 million and $10 million respectively.
