Final designs for Boronia Station precinct upgrade revealed to public

The final designs for a modern, accessible and safer Boronia Station precinct in Victoria have been released ahead of early works beginning in the coming weeks. 

The designs feature a striking new station forecourt canopy inspired by nearby Dandenong Ranges flora and an expanded concourse to improve connections across the rail line. 

A new landscaped plaza between the upgraded Boronia Station and Dorset Road will provide more green space and seating as well as a new community meeting place. The plaza will also simplify pedestrian movement between the station and Boronia’s shopping precinct. 

The station concourse will also be widened, with the ticket office relocated to the Erica Avenue entry, and the protective services office moved to the Lupton Way entrance to boost safety through improved visibility across the plaza and station area. 

“We’re getting on with upgrading the Boronia Station precinct, making it easier for people to access public transport and connect with local shops and places to eat. 

“Creating a safe and modern station will completely transform the heart of Boronia,” Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams said.

The project will also enhance accessibility with an upgraded pick-up and drop-off zone on Lupton Way, better footpaths to both station entrances, and more bike hoops and improved cycling connections. 

Community feedback has helped shape the designs, which will also include new platform shelters, seating and improved lighting to provide comfort and protection from the weather. Additional lighting and CCTV across the precinct will also be installed to further improve safety. 

In addition, a new pocket park will be built near the Boronia Junction Shopping Centre and it will feature garden beds, trees, seating and a nature play area that will create a welcoming green space for the community.

Early works, which will commence soon, include traffic light upgrades at the Dorset and Chandler roads intersection to add a dedicated right-turn arrow for drivers. 

The Boronia Station Upgrade is due to be completed next year. This project follows major works that have already made the Belgrave Line boom gate free between Ferntree Gully and Melbourne’s CBD, and the Lilydale Line level crossing free. 

“This is the biggest investment into Boronia in a generation and like locals, I’m absolutely stoked to see the release of final designs for a better Boronia Station precinct, opening next year. From a new landscaped plaza, new platform and concourse amenities – we won’t know the place anymore,” Member for Bayswater Jackson Taylor said.
