Four companies hae been shortlisted to submit tenders for Stage Two of the $175 million Thompson Road upgrade in Melbourne's south-east, with the construction due to start before the end of 2017.   The Victorian Government has asked BMD, CPB, Cut and Fill and Winslow to tender for second stage works which will include the duplication of remaining sections from Dandenong-Frankston Road to Marriott Boulevard as well as from Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road to Berwick Cranbourne Road.

The project will also replace the roundabout at Western Port Highway with traffic signals, provide traffic signals at McCormicks Road and at Evans Road, and construct up to 10 kilometres of shared use paths to connect the public with community facilities and public transport hubs.

Victorian Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan spoke of how vital the Thompsons Road Upgrade was to improve connectivity for those who work and live in the region.

"The calibre of the firms bidding for the project reflects the importance of the investment we are making in creating a safer and more reliable Thompsons Road,” said Minister Donnellan.

"Our local community has been waiting a long time for this project and the Andrews Labor Government is getting on with it."

The contract for Stage Two is due to be awarded by mid-year, construction to start before Christmas, and finish by mid-2019.

Stage One, awarded to BMD, is already well underway, with the removal of the level crossing near Merinda Park Railway Station commencing last December. Stage One is due to be completed by late 2018.
