Georgiou Group has announced that the company has been awarded the construction contract for the Saltwater Creek and Deadmans Gully flood immunity upgrades along the Bruce Highway in Queensland.

“Having delivered the Bruce Highway (Tiana Interchange) in 2017, our experienced team will be looking forward to getting back to the Maryborough region and delivering another piece of infrastructure that will improve road safety for motorists.

“The project provides Georgiou with the opportunity to strengthen our road and bridge capability while improving our regional experience. Additionally, the team is committed to investing back into the community by offering a range of training opportunities in regional Queensland,” Georgiou Group Eastern Region Executive General Manager Gary Georgiou said.

The $103 million project will include:

  • Construction of a high-level bridge and approaches on a new alignment at Saltwater Creek crossing and a new bridge and approaches to Deadmans Gully on a new alignment
  • Upgrades to four existing floodway sections north of Saltwater Creek between Maryborough and Torbanlea to improve flood immunity
  • Minor realignment of the Herrenberg Street and Rampton Road intersections, to connect to the new Bruce Highway alignment

This Bruce Highway upgrade is anticipated to support up to 286 direct jobs.

Construction is already underway and is due to be completed by the end of 2023.

Once open to traffic, this upgraded section of the Bruce Highway will have less disruptions due to flood related closures as well as improved safety for all road users.

The $103 million project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments, each contributing $82.4 million and $20.6 million respectively.
