The development of Rio Tinto's Western Turner Syncline Phase 2 Stage 2 project is progressing well and more works will ramp up on site as Georgiou Group secures the contract to deliver non-process infrastructure on site.
The company's scope of works will include the extension of the heavy equipment workshop, construction of a new light mobile equipment workshop and tyre change facility, the expansion of ancillary buildings and installation of water infrastructure.
“Over the past five years, Georgiou has really solidified their position in the non-process infrastructure space, having successfully delivered a number of NPI (non-process infrastructure) projects for Tianqi Lithium and, more recently, Rio Tinto Iron Ore.
“This new project enables us to continue building on our relationship with Rio Tinto as we take on more complex, technically challenging projects in WA's north,” Georgiou Group CEO Rob Monaci said.
Construction on this project has already commenced, with completion due by October 2021.
The Western Turner Syncline Phase 2 (WTS2) is located in the Pilbara region, approximately 35 kilometres north-west of Tom Price in Western Australia.
This development is aimed at expanding this Greater Tom Price operations to help sustain Rio Tinto's production capacity at its iron ore business in the Pilbara.
