Georgiou Group secures contract to deliver $225m Reid Highway Interchanges

Two new interchanges will soon be built on the Reid Highway in Western Australia after awarding Georgiou Group the contract to design and construct the projects.

The Altone Road and Drumpellier Drive/Daviot Road are the last two remaining sets of traffic signals along Reid Highway. Replacing the traffic signals with new grade-separated interchanges will enable vehicles to pass freely through, improving transport efficiency in the areas as well as providing more reliable freight movement.

This project will deliver major upgrades along the strategic east-west route to help reduce congestion, improve connectivity and facilitate the needs of the growing communities in Perth’s north-eastern suburbs.

“Our government recognises how important it is to address congestion and bottlenecks on our road network and the delivery of the interchanges on Reid Highway will significantly improve safety and efficiency on one of our key freight routes.

“The transformation of these intersections will be critical to meet the growing transport needs of the local community and keeping our freight networks moving.

“The project will also deliver critical improvements to our shared path network for cyclists and pedestrians, with new bridges and underpasses creating an uninterrupted path from West Swan Road to Malaga Drive, enhancing connections into the Swan Valley region,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.

The scope of the project include:

  • A new bridge on Reid Highway, passing over Altone Road intersection, with connectivity between Altone Road and Reid Highway to be maintained via entry and exit ramps and roundabouts
  • A new bridge connecting Drumpellier Drive with Daviot Road over Reid Highway with entry and exit ramps onto Reid Highway
  • Modifications to Reid Highway from Altone Road to Arthur Street to support the new interchanges
  • Modifications to the existing Tattler Way roundabout to provide southbound left in / left out access to residential area
  • A Principal Shared Path (PSP) bridge for cyclists and pedestrians passing over the Altone Road on-ramp and new PSP underpasses beneath the Altone Road off ramp and Daviot Road. Collectively these upgrades will provide an uninterrupted path network from West Swan Road to Malaga Drive
  • Landscaping and urban design

Construction is anticipated to start later this year, with detailed design and community engagement to get underway in the coming months.

The $225 million Reid Highway Interchanges project is jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments on a 50:50 basis.
