The Brisbane City Council has awarded the construction contract for Stage 1 of the $183 million Moggill Road Corridor Upgrade project to Georgiou Group.

Stage 1 will deliver the Indooroopilly Roundabout Upgrade. Scope of works under this project will include the construction of an overpass from Coonan Street over Moggill Road to improve traffic flow, safety as well as active transport options. This project will also cater to existing and future traffic demands in the area.

“At Georgiou, we pride ourselves on delivering technically complex projects and this one will be no different. From a community perspective, the project borders commercial, retail and residential properties and with more than 55,000 vehicles through the roundabout each day, it’s important we minimise disruption as much as possible.

“Having delivered projects for Brisbane City Council, our team has a solid understanding of what the client expects and we will work hard to ensure we deliver, and where possible, exceed their expectations on this critical project,” Georgiou Group Eastern Region Executive General Manager Gary Georgiou said.

Georgiou Group is estimating about 85 internal personnel to work on the project at peak construction.

Construction will commence immediately and is due to be completed by early 2024.

The Moggill Road Corridor Upgrade is going to be delivered in two stages.

The final design for Stage 1, the Indooroopilly Roundabout Upgrade, will:

  • Improve safety for road users and pedestrians at the intersection and nearby streets by allowing free flowing traffic on Moggill Road
  • Improve traffic flow and reduce travel times with the construction of an overpass for vehicles on Coonan Street
  • Create more accessible active transport options by upgrading shared pedestrian and cycle paths, improving active travel opportunities and connectivity
  • Create a greener space with new landscaping across the site

On the other hand, Stage 2 will further improve Moggill Road’s traffic conditions to maximise the upgrade on the Indooroopilly roundabout. This stage will include:

  • Creating more accessible public transport by creating new indented bus stops to move parked buses out of traffic lanes where possible
  • Various traffic flow improvements
