Glencore has reached a new milestone on its proposed Glendell Continued Operations Project as it moves to the next stage in the approval process after the New South Wales Department of Planning, Industry and the Environment (DPIE) recommended the project to proceed.
The project is now waiting for final determination from the New South Wales Independent Planning Commission (IPC) following its assessment process, which will include a public hearing that is yet to be held.

In a statement, Glencore said: “Glencore has invested more than $15 million in developing the project and over the past five years we have engaged with a wide range of stakeholders on different aspects of the project including Singleton Council, government agencies, Registered Aboriginal Parties, near neighbours, and the communities of Singleton and Broke.”
The proposed project will include establishing a new mining area called Glendell pit extension at the Glendell Open Cut mine – which is part of Glencore Coal’s Mount Owen Complex located at Ravensworth – to extend mine life to 2044.
Glencore Coal’s complex includes the Mount Owen, Ravensworth East and Glendell mines. These mines share a single coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP) and other infrastructure at the Mount Owen site.
The public hearing is scheduled to be held on 18th and 21st March 2022 at 8:30am AEDT. It is going to be conducted remotely by electronic means.
