NRW Holdings has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Golding Contractors Pty Ltd has been awarded a $55 million contract to deliver works on the Mackay Ring Road Project in Queensland.

Golding Contractors will be undertaking works to upgrade a 400-metre section of the Bruce Highway – from two lanes to a four-lane divided carriageway – to connect Mackay Ring Road to Bald Hill Road, with scope of works to include:

  • Widening the existing Bruce Highway to accommodate additional lanes
  • Building a new rail overpass over the existing rail line
  • Building two new road overpasses
  • Realignment of Bald Hill Road and Bruce Highway Intersection and reconstructing approximately 170 metres of Bald Hill Road

“Golding has a long history of successfully delivering Department of Transport and Main Roads Projects within Central and Northern Queensland and we are excited to be working with the Department to deliver this critical project in Mackay,” NRW Holdings CEO and Managing Director Jules Pemberton said.

The Mackay Ring Road to Bald Hill Road connection project is part of the broader $497.3 million Mackay Ring Road development that is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments – each contributing $397.9 million and $99.4 million respectively.

The Mackay Ring Road project delivers new connections at the Bruce Highway south, the Peak Downs Highway and the Bruce Highway north.

It also includes new roundabouts at the southern end of the Stockroute Road and Colrossie Road intersection as well as at the northern end of just north of Bald Hill Road.

In addition, a new interchange at the Peak Downs Highway has been built.

Construction on the Bald Hill Road connection is due to begin in October 2022 and is expected to be completed by May 2024.
