Adani Group has been given the green light to construct a $200 million 140MW solar farm located north of Whyalla in South Australia.

The solar project is going to be located approximately 10 kilometres north of Whyalla on the State’s Port Lincoln Highway. The company is also considering a battery storage to accompany the solar farm.

This project is expected to support up to 150 jobs during construction, with about five full-time ongoing positions once the solar farm is operational.

“In addition to those jobs for locals, the indirect employment benefits will flow from Adani’s policy to buy from local suppliers first,” Adani Australia Chief Executive – Renewable Energy Division Jennifer Purdie said.

Construction of the project is expected to commence in 2018, with the solar farm to begin generating power by early 2019.
