The $507 million Gruyere Gold Mine project has been given the final mining approval by the Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP). The gold mine development 200-kilometres east of Laverton is a 50:50 joint venture project by Gold Road Resources and Gold Fields.

This final mining approval is necessary to commence works on the processing plant as well as associated infrastructure and development work on the mine’s open pit.

The next step for the Gruyere Gold Mine project is the awarding of various major contracts which includes the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the process plant and associated infrastructure as well as contracts for bulk earthworks and power supply.

The contracts are expected to be awarded by March 2017.

“The JV project team remains focused on the commencement of construction of the process plant and infrastructure in the March 2017 quarter with contracts expected to be awarded soon to allow progress to continue to plan,” said Gold Road Managing Director and CEO Ian Murray.

The joint venture received the environmental approval for the project from the Western Australian Government earlier this year. The project is also on track to be completed by December 2018.
