Intersection upgrades on the Stuart Hwy north of Tennant Creek NT will begin soon

Upgrades to a four-way intersection on the Stuart Highway north of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory will soon commence, following the award of a $7.3 million contract to DAC Enterprises to undertake project delivery.

Upgrading the intersection of Warrego and Kaczinsky roads and Stuart Highway will make it safer for motorists and future-proof the intersection for heavy vehicle activity in the Barkly region.

“We continue to invest in strengthening our road network and supporting economic growth and connectivity across the Barkly as part of our growth, certainty and security,” NT Minister for Logistics and infrastructure Bill Yan MLA said.

“This is great news for the Barkly region, improving safety and strengthening freight and supply chains.

“We are determined to make Tennant Creek once again a great place to live, work, visit and invest, and better roads are part of improving the lifestyle in the Barkly,” NT Member for Barkly Steve Edgington MLA said.

The project will deliver two staggered T-intersections, and will feature:

• A dedicated right-turning lane from the Stuart Highway into each road
• Right turns from Warrego and Kaczinsky roads onto the Stuart Highway
• Left-turn slip lanes from the Stuart Highway into each road
• A formalised access into the Tennant Creek Speedway from Kaczinsky Road

This upgrade is jointly funded by the Australian and Northern Territory Governments under the Road Safety Program, through which more than $140 million has been committed to the Territory.

“Upgrading this intersection to create a new, safer alignment means better connectivity for Tennant Creek and the Barkly region to the rest of the Territory,” Federal Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories Kristy McBain MP said.

“Investing in the Stuart Highway means investing in Territorians. The Stuart Highway is the backbone that connects our communities and brings greater business and tourism opportunities.

“Our government sees the economic potential of the Barkly and we’ll continue to invest in infrastructure that helps the region grow,” Federal Member for Lingiari Marion Scrymgour MP said.
