Construction on a $250 million Westin luxury hotel gets the green light with Landbridge as the preferred contractor. The hotel will be located on the Darwin Waterfront and is expected to enhance the precinct’s popularity and boost tourism, while hundreds of jobs will be created throughout construction.

“The luxury hotel development is expected to provide a significant economic boost and generate more than 500 jobs during the construction phase and hundreds of ongoing jobs when it opens.” – Minister Adam Giles

According to Chief Minister Adam Giles, this luxury hotel will be a “game changer” for tourism in the Top End. The establishment of the Westin hotel also marks the introduction of the Starwood Hotels and Resorts brand to the Northern Territory.

“The development is set to boost the economy, act as a drawcard for increased high-end business and leisure visitors, and give Darwin a significant edge in the lucrative business conference market.” – Minister Adam Giles

The site for the Westin hotel will include 2.9 hectares of the former Toga site. As a direct result of community and stakeholder feedback, Jervois Park will remain a public open space and will not be included in the hotel’s development. The Government has also agreed that it will provide at least $10 million for the connecting services to the site, but it will not be providing direct support for the hotel’s ongoing operations.

Construction on the Westin hotel is expected to begin in 2017 and will be operational by 2020.
