John Holland JV awarded new 7-year contract for works on Melbourne rail network

John Holland, as part of the Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) joint venture, has been awarded a new 7-year contract to operate and maintain the Melbourne rail network. The joint venture comprises of MTR Corporation, John Holland and UGL Rail Services.

As part of this contract, John Holland will be carrying out early works on Melbourne Metro as well as build the new Metro Tunnels, including over station developments in the heart of the city. The company will also be undertaking the removal of major level crossings and the delivery of the Mernda Rail Extension.

“While we get on with the job of delivering these huge transformational projects for the people of Melbourne, we understand the need to keep the city moving safely and reliably today,” John Holland Chief Executive Office Joe Barr said.

The new contract will take effect on 30 November 2017, after the old contract expires.

“John Holland, together with our partners, is committed to keep putting passengers first, and the new contract includes global best practices and innovative solutions to the running of Melbourne’s train services,” John Holland Executive General Manager – Rail Gary Seabury said.
