John Holland JV wins work on 270km pipeline project in NSW

WaterNSW has awarded the John Holland, MPC Group and TRILITY consortium the contract to design, construct, operate and maintain a 270-kilometre water supply pipeline.

The new pipeline will run from the River Murray in Wentworth to Broken Hill, drawing up to 37.4 megalitres of water at peak daily demand.

“This pipeline will provide long-term water security for the Broken Hill community, enabling it to thrive.

“It will supply up to 37.4 megalitres of a peak daily demand of raw water to Essential Water in Broken Hill as the local water provider. Our efficient design ensured the best outcomes in terms of pipe sizes and pumping stations,” John Holland Chief Executive Officer Joe Barr said.

The winning consortium will be split in two – the John Holland / MPC joint venture and John Holland / TRILITY joint venture.

The John Holland / MPC joint venture will undertake the design and construction of the River Murray to Broken Hill pipeline – with a total project cost of $467 million. Works for this project will include the construction of three pump stations, water storages and power supply infrastructure.

The John Holland / TRILITY joint venture, on the other hand, will undertake the operations and maintenance of the pipeline over a 20-year period, with a contract value of $107.3 million.

“We are focussed on maximising the short-term benefits locally. The project is forecast to spend $50 million in the local area and employ 150 local people from a peak workforce of around 500,” Mr Barr said.

Detailed planning and design for the new pipeline will begin immediately and construction is expected to commence in early 2018.
