Four key contracts - with a total value approximately $60 million - for the development of Kalium Lakes’ Beyondie sulphate of potash project (BSOPP) in Western Australia has been awarded, allowing for early works to commence on the purification plant facilities .
“We have spent a significant amount of time and effort ensuring we selected the right partners to deliver each of the important ingredients for a successful, integrated project.
“We are very pleased to have concluded the contracts with companies that have become critical partners on the successful completion of the BSOPP as we enter the next, exciting stage of the Project together,” Kalium Lakes’ Chief Development Officer Rudolph van Niekerk said.
The Ebtec GbR joint venture - comprised of K-UTEC AG Salt Technologies and Ebner GmbR - has been awarded the engineering, procurement and supervision (EPS) service contract, which will get the consortium to supply the process plant as well as provide equipment installation supervision and commissioning of the plant.
Ebtec’s contract will also include performance guarantees that will ensure the quality of sulphate of potash (SOP) production will be in line with the K+S Offtake Agreement requirements; and liquidated damages for performance and schedule.
The contract for engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) has been awarded to DRA Global - a Perth-based company. With this contract, DRA Global will take the lead in the overall development and commissioning of the BSOPP.
Maschinenfabrik Köppern GmbH & Co. KG will be delivering works associated with the compaction plant for the production of granular SOP. Works will include engineering and supply of equipment.
The fourth award is a construction contract awarded to Firm Construction Pty Ltd, which will get the company to undertake a number of construction services for the delivery of the BSOPP.
The BSOPP is located approximately 160 kilometres south east of Newman and is going to be built on a 2,400-SQM site. The mine is anticipated to have a mine life of 30 to 50 years, with first production expected in 2020.
