The Armadale Access Alliance - a joint venture between Laing O’Rourke and BG&E - has been awarded a $134 million contract for the delivery of the Armadale Road to North Lake Road Bridge, taking the project one step closer to construction.

“The Armadale Road upgrade is just one of a number of significant projects underway in Perth’s southern suburbs, which will reduce congestion and lead to safer and more efficient journeys around our suburbs,” Premier Mark McGowan said.

This $237 million project will include:

  • A new bridge over Kwinana Freeway that will connect to North Lake Road with upgrades to Armadale Road
  • Construction of free flowing lanes on Armadale Road through Solomon Road and Tapper Road intersections with grade separated roundabouts
  • North-facing on and off ramps at Kwinana Freeway
  • Collector-distributor roads on both sides of the Kwinana Freeway from Berrigan Drive to Armadale
  • Modification to the existing North Lake Road and Midgegooroo Avenue signalised intersection

“The Armadale Road to North Lake Road Bridge project will tackle long wait times at one of the State’s worst pinch points and facilitate new investment and development opportunities in the Cities of Cockburn and Armadale,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.

Once construction has been completed, the upgrade will help ease congestion at Cockburn Central Station and the Cockburn Gateway Shopping Centre as well as provide connection between Armadale Road and North Lake Road and improve access to Kwinana Freeway.

The upgrade will also support the future residential and commercial expansion in Armadale and Cockburn.

Construction works are expected to commence in late 2019 once detailed design has been completed.

The Armadale Road to North Lake Road Bridge is anticipated to create up to 1,400 jobs during construction.
