The next phase of the Gold Coast Airport’s $370 million redevelopment - also known as Project LIFT - is one step closer to construction take off with the appointment of Lendlease as the contractor to deliver the project.

“We look forward to working with Lendlease on the terminal expansion, which will commence soon and is expected to be completed in mid-2021,” Queensland Airports Limited CEO Chris Mills said.

Lendlease will be delivering a three-level terminal together with aerobridges south of the existing airport facility.

This project is set to improve the capacity and open up the airport for future growth in passenger volume.

“The existing terminal is currently operating beyond capacity. This expansion will not only help us meet demand, it will create an entry point to the city, befitting the nation’s leading tourism region,” Mr Mills said.

This phase of the airport redevelopment will not only benefit passengers going in and out of Gold Coast, but the local construction industry as well with more than a thousand jobs to be supported during the delivery phase.

“Over the life of the project, we’ll be employing upwards of 1,500 subcontractors and suppliers - many of whom will be local to the Gold Coast.

“During peak construction times, approximately 250 workers will be required onsite at any one time,” Lendlease Building Chief Executive Officer Dale Connor said.

Once construction is completed, the existing terminal’s floor area will be doubled by the new addition, offering more flexibility when providing services to domestic and international flights when the need arise.
