Locals will be able to benefit from a safer open level crossing on the Warrego Highway in Chinchilla, Queensland as well as better freight efficiency with a $16 million upgrade set to commence later this year.
The upgrade is going to be done at the open level crossing where the Queensland rail line intersects with the Warrego Highway and Wambo Street.

The open level crossing upgrade at Chinchilla is part of the $635 million Warrego Highway Upgrade Program (WHUP) that is designed to improve road safety along the route between Toowoomba and Miles.
Construction on the Chinchilla open level crossing project is expected to commence in August of this year, and works are projected to be completed by mid-2019.

Another $44 million has been invested on the Warrego Highway Upgrade program for the construction of eight new overtaking lanes between Dalby and Oakey.
The Warrego Highway in Queensland will have three more upgrades to be funded, and this brings the total number of upgrades to 18 as part of the $635 million Warrego Highway Upgrade Program.
The FKG Group and McIlwain Civil joint venture has been awarded contracts amounting to $115 million for works on the Warrego Highway Upgrade through Dalby.
