Construction is underway to upgrade the Pialba-Burrum Heads Road, Scrub Hill Road and Wide Bay Drive intersection at Eli Waters in Queensland. This $26 million project is set to deliver a safer and more efficient intersection for all motorists.

Hazell Bros Group Pty Ltd has been appointed to deliver this multi-million dollar project and an average of 66 local jobs is expected to be supported by the upgrade.

“The major contract was awarded to Hazell Bros Group and a significant portion of the work will be completed using local subcontractors and suppliers,” Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said.

Mr Bailey added that this project is welcome news for the region and he asks that motorists stay vigilant to traffic changes while construction is ongoing.

“During construction there will be reduced lanes and speed limits in place and stop-go traffic controllers will direct traffic.

“For the safety of all road users and the road workers please be cautious travelling through the site and allow extra travel time for any unexpected delays,” Mr Bailey said.

This upgrade project will include realigning Wide Bay Drive to the east to form a cross road intersection with Scrub Hill Road; installation of traffic signals to improve safety and efficiency; additional turning lanes to and from Scrub Hill Road and Wide Bay Drive; and pedestrian crossing facilities and new bicycle lanes.

“This is great news for local motorists, as well as the many visitors who come to our beautiful region,” Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders said.

Construction is expected to take up to 12 months, with the upgraded intersection set to be completed by early 2019, weather permitting.
