Construction on Risen Energy’s 121MW Yarranlea Solar Farm in Queensland moves to the next stage with two local companies awarded contracts to deliver works on the project. The two contracts awarded are for bulk earthworks and survey works.

The first contract is for bulk earthworks and Toowoomba-based Sedl Contractors has been awarded the contract. Works under this contract will include preparing the project site for the installation of the solar panels as well as substation equipment.

The second contract is for survey works and works under this contract is going to be delivered by Byrne Surveyors - also a Toowoomba-based company.

Risen Energy said in a media statement: “Yarranlea Solar will be outsourcing construction contracts for the solar farm. This is specialised work, and local contractors and firms will be utilised where possible.”

The planting of screening vegetation in and around the project site is also set to go underway.

The Yarranlea Solar Farm development is going to be progressed by Risen Energy, from detailed engineering design to construction and commissioning. Risen Energy will also operate the solar farm once construction is completed.

The solar farm is going to be located on a 250-hectare site approximately 50 kilometres south west of Toowoomba, with up to 400,000 solar panels to be installed on site. The Yarranlea Solar farm is projected to generate enough clean energy to power up to 32,000 homes.

Yarranlea Solar Farm is going to be connected to the power grid using the existing Ergon Energy infrastructure that is located near the development site.

Works on the Yarranlea Solar Farm commenced in May of this year and the project is due for completion by March 2019. Construction of the solar farm is also expected to support up to 200 jobs.
