$250m North Queensland Stadium invites local contractor registration

Expressions of interest have opened today for the provision of principal consultancy services, including the concept design for the $250 million North Queensland Stadium project.

Queensland Minister for State Development Dr Anthony Lynham said the project's over-riding theme is "local", with 750 construction jobs to be created.

“From the initial EOIs we’ll select a shortlist of consortia to submit a concept design for the new stadium as part of a design tender," said Minister Lynham.

“We want consortia that use local businesses, form local alliances and identify opportunities for local industry innovation.

“That means opportunity for local consultants to team up with leading sports designers to be part of this exciting project ---- and a concept design for the people of North Queensland before Christmas.”

As part of the tender process, bidders will need to detail opportunities for local industry and business.

As well as the first tender, local contractors are also able to register their interest online to work on the project.

Member for Townsville Scott Stewart has urged local suppliers to visit hpw.qld.gov.au/qtenders/ and "be the early bird and register now to be part of a very exciting time for Townsville."

Townsville needs these jobs and local businesses need these opportunities to supply their products and services," said Mr Stewart.

Following the EOI process, a shortlist of consultancies with relevant experience in stadium design will be approached in to participate in a Design Tender for a Concept Design and Design Team submission based on detailed tender documentation. The Design Tender process will lead to the selection and award of the Principal Consultancy team to develop a Concept Design (Pre Design including Project Brief, Stadium Concept Design and Site Master Plan) for the North Queensland Stadium.

We couldn't agree more with the "local" sentiment - suppliers should be given the best chance to target supply chain opportunities in their service area, especially on milestone projects like the Townsville stadium.
