Local subcontractors will be hired for Arriga mill project in QLD

Queensland-based company MSF Sugar has awarded thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions – a Germany-based company – the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a $75 million green energy power plant on the Tablelands.

Once MSF Sugar’s Arriga mill project is fully operational, it will be utilising a sugarcane byproduct called bagasse in order to produce 24 megawatts of electricity which is enough to power all the homes on the Tablelands. The Arriga mill is also one of four green energy power plants planned for the Far North region of QLD.

According to MSF Sugar’s Business Development General Manager Hywel Cook, the design as well as size and technology aspects for the Arriga mill project requires the considerable expertise and commercial history of a company who can deliver large-scale industrial plants.

“One priority for us was to source a company with an Australian presence and we achieved this.

“Wherever possible, subcontractors will be drawn from the local area,” Mr Cook said.

Construction is expected to commence in May 2017 and will be supporting up to 80 jobs and opportunities for local contractors and firms. Project completion is anticipated for July 2018.
