North Queensland businesses are being encouraged to register for the first round of on-the-ground work for the $250 million North Queensland Stadium.
According to State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham, suppliers and subcontractors who have previously registered expressions of interest (EOIs) for this project need to register again to be in the running for the 27 early works packages which was released by Watpac – the managing contractor for this project.
“Everyone who has registered expressions of interest has to review and renew their EOIs. Every effort is being made to email and call the early birds to check the new, detailed packages Watpac has released.
“Even if you have lodged EOIs for the early indicative work packages, it’s important to get back online on the ICN Gateway again,” Dr Lynham said.
Federal Assistant Minister for Cities Angus Taylor said that this project – which is the country’s first City Deal, the Townsville City Deal – is an important template for local jobs generation.
“All parties to the City Deal have heard loud and clear from Townsville that getting people into work locally is a top priority,” Mr Taylor said.
Early works packages will include demolition, temporary fencing, temporary hydraulics, construction of temporary site amenities as well as civil works, mobile crane hire, cleaning services and licensed traffic control managers.
“This is the first of many employment milestones for the stadium project as we head toward Watpac’s estimate of employing more than 2,000 people during design and construction.
“Now is the time for local suppliers and subcontractors with relevant experience, capacity and capability to submit expressions of interest for the packages they are interested in,” Dr Lynham said.

According to Dr Lynham, more trade packages will be released over the coming months, with up to 80 trade packages expected to be released in total.
