Adani Australia has awarded another contract for works at its Carmichael Coal Project in Queensland. Mackay-based G&S Engineering – a wholly owned subsidiary of DRA Global – was awarded the contract to design and build a new coal handling plant at the mine.
“Mackay is renowned for its well-established mining services industry and it has always been our intention to engage services from regional Queensland wherever possible,” Adani Mining CEO Lucas Dow said.
“This is an important project that is supported by the Queensland Government, has all of its environmental approvals and is one of the largest employment-creators in regional Queensland,” DRA Global CEO Andrew Naude said.
G&S Engineering will be undertaking the engineering, design and construction of the coal handling plant and works will include:

“This work will boost our regional economy past COVID and is the very reason we have supported Adani,” Mackay Regional Council Mayor Greg Williamson said.
The construction of the new coal handling plant at the Carmichael mine is expected to create up to 200 jobs and will provide a boost to the local economy.

“We’re pleased to see that Adani is supporting local contractors and our community more broadly,” Resource Industry Network Director Mark Walter said.
The Carmichael Coal Mine is located in the North Galilee Basin in Queensland, which is about 300 kilometres from the State coastline and 160 kilometres north west of Clermont.
Over the course of a year, more than $1 billion worth of contract have been awarded for the construction of the Carmichael Mine and Rail Project.
Adani is aiming to create up to 1,500 direct jobs at peak construction of the mine and rail components as well as support thousands of indirect jobs during the life of the project.
At its first stage of production, the Carmichael Mine is anticipated to produce up to 10 million tonnes of coal annually. The coal from the mine will then be transported to Abbot Point Port via a 200-kilometre rail line and existing rail infrastructure.
“In just over a year, we have awarded more than $1 billion worth of contracts and we remain on track to create more than 1,500 direct jobs during the construction and ramp up of our project and some further 6,750 indirect jobs.
“Construction is continuing with strict measures in place to manage the risk of the COVID-19 virus and to keep our workforce and the community safe,” Mr Dow said.
