The first of three stations to be built on the Gold Coast as part of the Cross River Rail project in Queensland is a step closer to beginning construction and ADCO Constructions has been awarded the contract to design and build the new Pimpama Station.

ADCO Constructions is due to start major works on the new station in early 2023.

“Pimpama is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Australia, so I’m glad to see we’ve taken this important step towards getting the station built.

“The new station will make it much easier for local residents to jump on a train, as they won’t need to go to Ormeau or Coomera to use the rail network.

“Getting closer to having a new station is a win for the Pimpama community, and I’m looking forward to seeing construction progress,” Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said.

Early works along with site establishment works are already progressing. Early works on the project include a new signalised intersection at Bedford Road and the Old Pacific Highway, a station access road, associated drainage works and connecting cycle and pedestrian pathways.

“We know how important it is to get this station built, which is why we haven’t wasted any time getting the site ready for construction.

“This project comes as part of the Palaszczuk Labor Government’s almost $5.2 billion, four-year road and transport plan for the Gold Coast, supporting 4,300 good, secure jobs.

“We’re making it much easier to move around the Gold Coast, and helping Queenslanders spend more time enjoying out great lifestyle,” Gold Coast-based Queensland Government Minister Meaghan Scanlon said.

The new Pimpama Station will feature:

  1. Approximately 230 car parks in Stage 1
  2. Provision for approximately 150 car parks in Stage 2 (380 total)
  3. Provision for approximately 200 car parks in Stage 3 (580 total)
  4. Lighting and CCTV throughout the carpark and station
  5. Five accessible car parks
  6. Through-lift on each platform
  7. Accessible kiss ‘n’ ride bays
  8. Accessible taxi bays
  9. Bus stops
  10. Undercover lock-up enclosures for 40 bicycles
  11. Planned connections to local pedestrian and cycle paths
  12. Existing pedestrian connection
  13. Station building and ticketing
  14. Stairs connecting entry level to overpass
  15. Pedestrian overpass
  16. Bioretention (storm water) basin

“Whether you’re pushing a pram or in a wheelchair, you will have a good passenger experience at the new Pimpama station.

“We want our new Gold Coast stations to be accessbile to all of the community, which is why we consulted extensively with a specially formed accessibility reference group,” Minister Scanlon said.

ADCO Constructions Managing Director Neil Harding said that the project team – comprised of highly experienced rail and transport delivery experts – is looking forward to the delivery of this significant project.

“ADCO is thrilled with the opportunity to deliver this project, contributing to the growth of SEQ, in particular improving connectivity with other public transport networks between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, while also boosting local businesses and providing jobs for the local community.

“The Pimpama train station project adds to ADCO’s solid track record of projects within the region, such as the Pimpama Sports Hub, Pimpama Tavern and other facilities in the rail and transport sector,” Mr Harding said.

While construction on the new Pimpama Station is set to commence, procurement for the two other Gold Coast stations – Merrimac and Hope Island – is also progressing.

“Procurement activities are well underway at Merrimac and Hope Island, with major works set to start at both later this year.

“All three Gold Coast stations are scheduled to be operational in line with the first Cross River Rail services,” Minister Bailey said.
