Mincor awards Kambalda mining services contract to local contractor

Mining services company Pit N Portal (PNP) – which was recently acquired by Emeco Holdings – has been awarded a contract by Mincor Resources to deliver works at its wholly-owned Kambalda Nickel Operations in Western Australia.

The awarding of this contract to a Kalgoorlie-based company is consistent with Mincor Resources’ commitment to maximising its local content, supporting local businesses and communities as well as creating opportunities for a residential workforce when needed.

“We selected Pit N Portal on a wide range of criteria including safety, performance, contract cost, experience and capability, ability to meet our mobilisation timelines and the size and quality of their contract fleet.

“Their equipment fleet suits our proposed style of mining and, as one of Australia’s largest hard-rock underground mining equipment solutions providers, we will have access to a large range of equipment options and high-class maintenance and rebuild capacity – giving us significant operational and strategic flexibility, which is important when operating a number of underground mines,” Mincor Resources Managing Director David Southam said.

This contract award is comprised of a five-year underground mining contract for the new Cassini Nickel Mine and a three-year contract – with a two-year extension option – at the Northern Operations, which includes the brownfields Durkin North and Long Nickel Mines.

“This will be a cornerstone contract for PNP, ensuring we will have access to their highly-experienced Kalgoorlie-based leadership team, several members of whom worked previously at Mincor’s Kambalda nickel mines.

“The contract award also encompasses a joint commitment to support indigenous employment, consistent with the principle of Native Title Mining Agreement which we signed recently with the Ngadju People,” Mr Southam said.

Early works on the Cassini project have already been completed and it included site clearing, box-cut excavation, construction of the site office pad, magazine and waste areas as well as the delivery of surface settling dams and haul road.

Subject to Board approval and Final Investment Decision on the Nickel Restart Plan, Mincor Resources is anticipating to commence mining operations at the Kambalda Nickel Operations in the second half of 2020.
