As the delivery of the Fleurieu Connections Project in South Australia continues to progress, local businesses in the Fleurieu Peninsula are being encouraged to tender for future work packages on this significant transport infrastructure development.
The $560 million package of works – which is jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian Governments – will include duplicating Main South Road and Victor Harbor Road.
The South Australian Government, as part of its election commitment, will be investing an additional $125 million towards a full duplication of the Main South Road between Seaford and Sellicks Beach as well as the delivery of new overtaking lanes between Myponga and Cape Jervis and a grade separation at the intersection of Aldinga Beach Road and Aldinga Road.
The now $685 million project is anticipated to support 945 jobs annually throughout its construction phase.
Creating opportunities for small businesses as well as Aboriginal businesses and local Fleurieu Peninsula businesses is a key commitment of the multi-million-dollar project. Work opportunities will range from materials and equipment supply to the provision of labour, transport and logistics, and support services such as security and office supplies.
Local businesses interested in tendering for work on the Fleurieu Connections Project are encouraged to get in touch with the project delivery team – the Fleurieu Connections Alliance – to register their interest and get more information on the jobs available.
“When Labor duplicated the Southern Expressway, built the Darlington underpasses and overpasses, and extended the rail line to Seaford, we always had local jobs and businesses as a focal point.
“The Fleurieu Peninsula has so many skilled workers and small businesses and these sorts of local projects are important for them to have work close to home.
“I encourage everyone to check out what qualifications they need to work on the latest infrastructure projects and put their hand up for a job,” SA Member for Mawson Leon Bignell said.
The Fleurieu Connections Package will be delivered in two projects, namely the Main South Road and Victor Harbor Road duplication projects.
Works on Main South Road will be split into two stages:
On the other hand, the Victor Harbor Road is going to be duplicated between Main South Road and the McLaren Vale turn off with additional safety treatments along Victor Harbor Road – including an overtaking lane at Hindmarsh Valley
A planning study is also being undertaken for the second stage of the Victor Harbor Road duplication between McLaren Vale and Willunga Hill.
Major construction on the Fleurieu Connections Project commenced in May this year and is due to be completed in 2024.
The Fleurieu Connections Main South Road and Victor Harbor Road duplication projects will result in safer and faster journeys for motorists and provide a vital boost for local tourism, communities and support hundreds of jobs each year during construction.
“On top of this, a key commitment of Fleurieu Connections is to build local industry and leave a long-lasting legacy that will benefit the south of Adelaide.
“I’m a big supporter of governments procuring locally, whether state or local government, and that includes supporting local businesses to develop the capabilities to work on government projects. This project is a great example of that,” Minister for Regional Roads Geoff Brock MP said.
