A $206 million contract to deliver works on Monash University’s Learning and Teaching Building – including a large underground carpark and regional transport interchange – has been awarded to Multiplex.

According to Multiplex’s Regional Managing Director Victoria Graham Cottam, the multi-storey development will cover 30,000 square metres and is a cornerstone to Monash’s ambition for the next 50 years.

“Monash University is already ranked within the top one per cent of global Universities and fittingly the brief by architect John Wardle is both challenging and visionary,” Mr Cottam said.

The new transport interchange included in the Monash University development will give visitors a new front door experience. Shaded structures will also be providing commuters and pedestrians with shelter while still complimenting the Learning and Teaching Building’s façade screens and landscape features.

“Tens of thousands of people come to Monash every day. Multiplex has been entrusted to also construct a large new underground carpark, along with a multi-modal, integrated Transport Interchange to increase capacity for buses and improve commuter experience and amenity of arrival on the campus,” Mr Cottam said.

Construction is well underway on the new facility and completion is expected by February 2018.
