The Victorian Government has announced that it will build a 204MW wind farm, with a 20MW battery storage, that will power Stawell’s Nectar Farms expansion in Western Victoria.
“We’re delivering affordable, secure and clean energy, which is powering new jobs right across our state,” Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio said.
The Bulgana Green Power Hub – with an expected investment of $665 million – will make the facility the world’s first ever crop farm that will be completely powered by renewable energy.
The State Government has signed a 15-year Support Agreement with Neoen Australia for the delivery of the project. This development is expected to create more than 1,300 jobs for the Stawell region – including 270 direct ongoing jobs in the agricultural sector as well as 10 direct ongoing jobs in the renewable energy industry.
“This is an exciting initiative which illustrates how renewable energy can unlock opportunities for large, energy intensive businesses to create jobs and build a better future for regional communities,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.
Bulgana Green Power Hub, once operational, will provide reliable and affordable renewable energy that will unlock the development of Stawell’s major new advanced agricultural facility – which will supply the highest quality produce into domestic as well as international markets.
