New $77m Costco facility in NSW to support 1000 jobs

New South Wales is set to become Costco’s new home, with the American retail company given the green light to build its Australian headquarters in Western Sydney.

The $77 million project is going to be located on a 14-hectare site in Kemps Creek, which is near the future Western Sydney Airport at Badgerys Creek.

The new warehouse distribution headquarters is going to be the size of about 20 football fields – making it the company’s largest facility in Australia – and the project is expected to support up to 1,000 jobs, with up to 730 construction jobs as well as 210 operational positions.

According to Premier Gladys Berejiklian, the Costco facility will help the future airport site become an Aerotropolis – “a fully integrated economic precinct” which will deliver opportunities and jobs to those living in Western Sydney and across the State.

“The location of these jobs is also strategically important for our State, with Costco’s new facility only a stone’s throw away from the future Western Sydney Airport site in Badgerys Creek.

“This new employment hub will also provide people living in Western Sydney the chance to work locally so they can spend less time commuting and more time with their families,” the Premier said.

Costco Managing Director Patrick Noone said that the retail company is looking forward to further their contribution to the Western Sydney economy.

“As we expand our business, we require a larger facility to serve the needs of our members here in Australia. This location is ideal for housing our depot and providing hundreds of jobs in Sydney’s booming west,” Mr Noone said.

Construction of the facility is expected to take up to 18 months to complete.
