A new coking coal mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin is set to deliver construction jobs as well as up to 200 operational jobs, with Bengal Coal securing a mining lease for the Dysart East coal project until 2039.

The Dysart East coal mine is expected to produce approximately 1.9 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of prime hard coking coal that can be used for the production of steel products.

According to Queensland Resources Council (QRC) Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane, Bengal Coal is planning to develop a new underground mine near Dysart in Central Queensland.

“It’s more good news for the coal industry.

“Coking coal is a major contributor to Queensland’s economy and a key part of the State’s resources sector,” Mr Macfarlane said.
