Queensland family-owned business MacKellar Group will continue delivering works at the Carmichael coal mine after the company secured a contract extension from Bravus Mining and Resources.

The contract extension will get MacKellar Group to undertake mining services for the next five years, with approximately 280 additional jobs in tow.

“Recruitment is already underway for more than 280 full-time employees, with roles including haul truck drivers, maintenance workers and many other trades.

“This is great news for MacKellar Group employees and contractors as it opens up long-term opportunities to work on this exciting project well into the future and builds upon the work of the MacKellar Group and Bravus teams.

“Onsite jobs will continue to operate as FIFO roles with Townsville and Rockhampton being our primary recruitment hubs, we will also be drawing from other Central and North Queensland regions including towns such as Clermont, Moranbah, Emerald and Charters Towers,” Bravus Mining and Resources CEO David Boshoff said.

For more information on the jobs available, you can visit Bravus Mining and Resources website.

MacKellar Group has been providing mining services at the mine, including clear and grub, topsoil removal and mining box cut as well as the construction of workshops, industrial areas, haul roads and ramps to mining pits.

“We are excited to be continuing our partnership with Bravus and to have the opportunity to build a different work environment to what employees may have experienced in other big mining companies.

“We respect the knowledge, expertise and experience all our people bring to work and we want them to use that to drive innovation and create a great culture at the Carmichael Mine. Importantly we are talking about full time secure work with these positions – these are opportunities for people and their families to put down permanent roots in North and Central Queensland,” MacKellar Group Managing Director Duncan MacKellar said.

Construction activities commenced at the Carmichael Mine in 2019. Currently, the project has created over 2,600 jobs as well as awarded more than $2.2 billion worth of contracts.

According to Mr Boshoff, hundreds of permanent jobs are becoming available as the mine progresses towards being operational.

“More than 88% of our contracts are being delivered in Queensland. This work has been spread across all corners of the state to give as many regions as possible the opportunity to benefit from our project, while also enabling us to tap into the highly-skilled construction and resources industry workforce that Queensland possesses,” Mr Boshoff said.

The Carmichael Mine is located within the North Galilee Basin, approximately 300 kilometres from the Queensland coastline and about 160 kilometres north west of Clermont.

The mine is anticipated to produce up to 10Mtpa of coal and generate billions of dollars in taxes and royalties over the first 30 years of its operations – which will help build new schools, hospitals and roads across the state.
