Western Australia is about to welcome what will become the country’s largest green hydrogen production facility as Perth-based Infinite Blue Energy (IBE) secures an initial $300 million funding to get construction going on the Arrowsmith Hydrogen Project.
The new hydrogen facility is going to be built in Dongara, approximately 320 kilometres north of Perth. The Arrowsmith Hydrogen Project will utilise renewable resources – such as wind and solar energy – to produce up to 25 tonnes of green hydrogen daily.
The facility will have its own renewable energy source on site, which includes about 85MW of solar power and 75MW of wind generation.
Infinite Blue Energy is anticipating beginning construction on the facility in June of this year, with first green hydrogen production expected in the last quarter of 2022.
The first stage of the project is expected to help reduce carbon emissions by up to 78,000 tonnes annually.
Approximately 300 regional jobs are expected to be created during construction.

Infinite Blue Energy is also planning to deliver other similar projects across regional Western Australia, in addition to the Arrowsmith Hydrogen Project. The company’s plans include a follow up project that has the capacity to produce up to 75,000Kg of green hydrogen each day.

Hydrogen has the potential to be utilised in energy storage as well as for transport fuel.
