The Werribee Line in Victoria is another step closer to becoming level crossing free, with works continuing to progress to replace the Maidstone Street level crossing with a new road bridge in Altona.
Piling works for the new bridge are now complete. A 140-tonne piling rig was utilised to drill 23 holes of up to 9 metres deep and 1.5 metres wide.
Each hole has already been filled with a reinforced steel cage and concrete to form part of the foundations for the new bridge.
Crews will also continue relocating underground services and constructing the bridge foundations over the coming months, preparing for the bridge beams to be lifted in mid-2026.

The new road bridge is set to be completed and opened to traffic in 2027, removing the dangerous and congested Maidstone Street level crossing for good.
This project will not only help improve safety, but it will also ease congestion by permanently separating trains and vehicles.
Meanwhile, works are also continuing to remove the nearby level crossings at Maddox and Champion roads in Newport. The Werribee Line is set to be boom gate free by 203.
