A new Glenhuntly Station is a step closer to being built, following the unveiling of designs for the new station. This project is being delivered as part of a series of transport infrastructure upgrades in Melbourne’s south-east that will help bust congestion and deliver more trains, more often.
The design of the new Glenhuntly Station complements the local architecture through the incorporation of materials such as bricks, light coloured granite and bluestone.
“The design is the result of thorough community consultation and will greatly improve the area by better connecting the station to the local shopping strip and in turn revitalising the heart of the suburb,” Member for Southern Metropolitan Nina Taylor said.

The new station is going to be built alongside the removal of two level crossings at Glen Huntly Road and Neerim Road – which is going to be done by lowering the rail line into a trench and constructing two road bridges.
“The stunning new station and two level crossing removals will make life easier for the thousands of people who travel through Glen Huntly every day,” Member for Oakleigh Steve Dimopoulos said.
Major construction has been fast-tracked to begin next year. The two dangerous and congested level crossings are set to be permanently gone in 2023, with the entire project completed in 2024 – a year ahead of schedule. With these projects complete, the Frankston Line is going to be level crossing-free between Flinders Street and Moorabbin Station.
The level crossing removals as well as the construction of the new Glenhuntly Station are anticipated to generate hundreds of jobs during peak delivery period, providing a boost to the local economy.
