Chevron Australia and property developer Brookfield have signed an agreement for the development of a new 29-storey mixed-use tower in Perth’s Elizabeth Quay, which is going to be Chevron’s Australian headquarters.
Chevron, as a principal tenant, will be occupying 78 per cent of the tower for a 15-year period.
“I’m thrilled with Chevron’s commitment to WA, it shows confidence in our State’s future and will be a boost for the economy.
“Thousands of employees will be based at the headquarters, benefitting small businesses throughout the city, and activating Elizabeth Quay,” Premier Mark McGowan said.
The new tower - located on the corner of The Esplanade and Barrack Street - will have approximately 54,000-SQM of office floor space and it will feature exhibition spaces, a lobby and conference facilities. The development will also include a childcare facility and a gymnasium space at the building’s lower levels together with retail and cafe/restaurant options on the ground floor.
“Chevron’s new headquarters will contribute to delivering a vibrant, activated Elizabeth Quay, which is ultimately expected to be home to 1,400 people and 10,000 workers,” Planning Minister Rita Saffioti said.
This project is anticipated to support up to 1,000 jobs during its construction, maximising the involvement of the local development industry - including equipment and services.
The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority granted development approval to Chevron Australia in December of last year. The Central Perth Land Redevelopment Committee recommended the project for approval and it noted the development’s unique architectural design as well as how the mix of commercial, retail, dining and entertainment as well as community land uses will complement Elizabeth Quay.
“Around 1,000 jobs will be created and local industry will benefit with a major flow-on of work through local contracts from Brookfield development.
“We’ve been committed to making Elizabeth Quay a success, and this development will go a long way to make sure this waterfront asset is a feature of our city for decades,” the Premier said.
Construction on the tower is expected to commence in mid-2020.
