The construction of Sydney Metro’s Barangaroo Station is progressing well with the completion of tunnelling and station excavation works and station fit out to commence.

For the next stage of works, John Holland CPB Ghella – the joint venture that delivered tunnelling and excavation works – has formally handed over the project site to BESIX Watpac who will undertake station fit out.

BESIX Watpac’s scope of works will include the delivery of underground station platforms, full fit out and station entrance, road works as well as public domain establishment such as footpaths, cycling facilities, tree planting, lighting and street furniture.

The works are expected to take up to two years to complete and will create approximately 300 jobs at peak construction.

The new Barangaroo Station is part of the wider Sydney Metro City & Southwest development. The station will feature:

  • New bike parking within the precinct
  • New configuration of bus stops close to the station entry
  • New kiss and ride and taxi facilities
  • Wayfinding signage and Sydney Metro information within the precinct
  • Transport and access arrangements which are being developed in consultation with Infrastructure NSW

Barangaroo Station is set to be operational in 2024.

Once up and running, the new station will help improve access to the Walsh Bay Arts and Culture precinct. The station will also provide easier access to public, residential, commercial and entertainment areas as well as to the new ferry hub.

Barangaroo Station is also expected to improve pedestrian connections to the northern part of the CBD and The Rock, and will help relieve congestion at Wynyard and Martin Place stations.
