An additional $10 million is going to be allocated by the New South Wales Government towards the Milton Ulladulla bypass project that will provide all road users with safer and more reliable journeys on the South Coast.

The new funding injection takes the total investment in the project to $762 million, but the total cost of the project is yet to be confirmed.

The additional funding is also part of a $52.2 million commitment that will continue delivering improvements to the Princes Highway between Nowra and the Victorian border.

“The focus is now on the future and upgrading the Princes Highway between the south of Nowra and the Victorian border to better connect communities and grow regional economies.

“We are continuing to work with the community to refine the preferred corridor for the joint Commonwealth and NSW Government funded bypass.

“The NSW Government is securing a brighter future for NSW families. We are achieving this by building what matters, like the Bypass, to make daily life better,” Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said.

Upgrades to the Princes Highway between Jervis Bay Road, south of Nowra, and the Victorian border are anticipated to provide a significant boost in the local economy through the delivery of more than 1,000 direct and 3,000 indirect jobs.

To date, more than $2.25 billion has been invested to progress five priority projects on the Nowra to Victorian border section of the Princes Highway. The projects include:

  • Jervis Bay Road and Princes Highway intersection upgrade
  • Jervis Bay Road to Sussex Inlet Road upgrade
  • Milton Ulladulla bypass
  • Burrill Lake to Batemans Bay upgrade
  • Moruya bypass

“It’s all happening down on the South Coast and the Princes Highway forms a critical link between Sydney and the Illawarra Region with the NSW South Coast down to the Victorian border.

“The upgrades to this stretch of road so far have been vitally important for local businesses like Australia’s Oyster Coast who have five farms on the South Coast from Shoalhaven to Merimbula.

“The upgrades have enabled them, like many other businesses, to expand and employ more locals providing my community more opportunities to live, work and raise a family on the South Coast,” Member for South Coast Shelley Hancock said.

The Princes Highway is a vital link between Sydney and the Illawarra Region with the NSW South Coast down to the Victorian border. The highway provides key connections between towns as well as regional centres and it is also an important freight link. The Princes Highway also connects key east-west roads and is a significant route for inter-regional travel for business, tourism and leisure.

According to Australia’s Oyster Coast CEO Devin Watson, road safety and efficiency is critical in the delivery of fresh quality oysters from the company’s processing facility in Batemans Bay to Sydney each day.

“Our drivers are already experiencing the benefits of time savings delivered as part of the Princes Highway upgrades on the South Coast.

“The road upgrades planned for south of Nowra will continue to improve the road safety of our regional employees whilst delivering our South Coast produce to the Greater Sydney Region,” Mr Watson said.
