Following the announcement of a State infrastructure pipeline earlier this month, the Northern Territory Government announced design details of the $50 million Mandorah Marine Facilities which moves the project one step closer towards construction.

With the existing Mandorah jetty becoming aged, a new facility is vital in order to improve safety as well as unlock the area’s potential for development and tourism.

“The jetty is ageing and a new facility will provide improved safety and to unlock development and tourism in the area, as well as creating jobs for Territorians,” Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Eva Lawler said.

The features of the new Mandorah jetty will include:

  • Breakwater structure / rock groyne

  • Gangway and floating pontoon to improve access for mobility impaired users and users with prams

  • Piles / pylon to support floating pontoon

  • Boat ramp

  • Onshore supporting infrastructure featuring car park and trailer parking

Construction of the new facility is expected to create up to 80 jobs. A tender for the detailed design is anticipated to be released to market soon, with the contract awarded by April 2019. On the other hand, the construction tender for the project is set to be released in 2020.

The new Mandorah Marine Facilities are expected to be completed in May 2022.

“The Mandorah Jetty and boat ramp are key facilities servicing the Mandorah, Wagait Beach and Belyuen communities and the passenger ferry travelling to and from Mandorah is the quickest way to get across the harbour from Darwin.

“Mandorah’s jetty is also considered the number one land-based fishing destination in the Territory and the new facilities should make it even more attractive to recreational fishos to visit the area and drop a line,” Minister Lawler said.

This project is part of the $125.6 million infrastructure pipeline that will deliver five projects as well as create up to 500 direct and indirect jobs and support the local construction industry.
