Panania Railway Station Upgrade gains planning approval

Sophia Rostron   |   September 12, 2016

Following the recent receipt of planning approval, Transport for NSW has released a tender for the design and construction of major upgrade to Panania Station in Sydney's south-west.

The upgrade involves improved facilities for people with disabilities, the elderly, passengers with prams or luggage and young people.

“This planning approval follows a review of feedback received from the community during the public display of the plans for the station upgrade earlier this year," said a Transport for NSW spokesperson.

“We know this upgrade will make a real difference for residents and will help encourage more people to choose public transport."

Improvements will include:

  • Three new lifts and stairs
  • New pedestrian bridge
  • New canopies for weather protection
  • Refurbishment of the heritage platform building to include new toilet facilities
  • Improvements to the bicycle facilities and interchanges areas
  • New wayfinding signage
  • Improvements to lighting and CCTV surveillance.

The Panania Station upgrade will be delivered as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, an initiative to deliver modern, safe and accessible transport infrastructure.

Early works are expected to start in 2016, and the upgrade will take approximately 18 months to complete.

An upgrade of Narwee Station has also been approved, which once complete will provide new stairs and a lift, canopies, and refurbishment of the heritage platform building including new customer toilets.
