The Australian and Victorian Governments are getting on with upgrading the western side of the Thompson Road and Mornington Peninsula Freeway interchange in Patterson Lakes with planning now underway.
Big Build Roads is also inviting the community to have their say on the project until 30 November 2025. Feedback received from residents and local businesses will help shape planning for the upgrade and it will help planners better understand how people use the interchange, their views on safety and traffic as well as what should be considered during the design phase.
This project is part of the $1.2 billion Road Blitz, and it aims to improve safety, ease congestion and enhance traffic flow through this busy area.
“We’re getting on with planning to make this interchange safer and less congested, ensuring local communities can travel through the area with greater ease,” VIC Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne said.
“The community have made it clear they want to be consulted on the project which will cut bottlenecks and make daily trips smoother for residents and local businesses. It is my role as the federal member to be a strong local voice so residents feel heard as we deliver this project for Dunkley. I look forward to hearing their ideas,” Federal Member for Dunkley Jodie Belyea said.
“Locals know this intersection well, and their feedback will be key to shaping an upgrade that works for everyone,” State Member for Carrum Sonya Kilkenny said.
Planning activities for this upgrade include developing a project design, detailed traffic analysis and on-site investigations to build a clear picture of existing conditions. During this time, temporary lane closures and reduced speed limits will be observed.
The project team will ensure disruptions are kept to a minimum and busy travel periods will be avoided wherever possible.
Planning is due to be completed next year and construction timelines will be confirmed once planning progresses further.
