Planning & design get underway on Bruce Hwy-Farleigh Habana Rd intersection upgrade
Planning and design will now commence on the Bruce Highway and Farleigh Habana Road intersection upgrade, which is part of the $9 billion Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program.
The intersection between the Bruce Highway and Farleigh Habana Road is a known blackspot and crash hotspot that has seen several accidents, including four hospitalisations due to serious incidents in the past 10 years.
“We are delivering the safer Bruce Highway that regional Queensland has demanded and waited too long for.
“This is about getting Queenslanders home sooner and safer, starting with the worst blackspots to boost safety on the Bruce,” Premier David Crisafulli said.
The upgrade will include reconfiguring the intersection to improve safety and boost capacity. This section of road will also be widened to provide safer access for heavy vehicles.
This intersection upgrade is one of the 52 new tenders to be released in the next phase of the Bruce Highway program of works, jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments on an 80:20 basis.
Construction on this upgrade is expected to begin in 2027.
The Bruce Highway Advisory Council will continue working to identify the next phase of priority projects under the $9 billion Program.
“The Bruce Highway and Farleigh Habana Road intersection is notoriously dangerous, and these overdue upgrades for our community will deliver a major boost to safety.
“In addition to saving lives, this investment is ensuring we have the regional connectivity to support our tourism, mining and agricultural industries,” Member for Whitsunday Amanda Camm said.
“These upgrades to the Bruce Highway are something the community has been calling for and now thanks to the Government securing a $9 billion program, it’s getting the critical upgrades it needs,” Member for Mackay Nigel Dalton said.
